Childhood is the world of miracle or of magic: it is as if creation rose luminously out of the night, all new and fresh and astonishing. Childhood is over the moment things are no longer astonishing. When the world gives you a feeling of "déjà vu," when you are used to existence, you become an adult.

Charly taught Little Wanna how to play Rummy-O on the weekend. It was delightful to see her thinking the rules through, deep in concentration, building confidence, trying a bit of cheating and hoarding the jokers. It was also amusing to see Charly deploy her masterful strategies and relish her win. Do we ever tire of board games and hot chocolate on a blustery Winter's day?
That is such a great game! We played it with our 3 kids for hours at night while renting a cottage in the West Scottish Highlands that came complete with rain for the week! Daytime saw us exploring, nighttime had the games all out. It still comes out now that they are adults and are home for the weekend.
ReplyDeleteWhat gorgeous girls you have. Do you know I don't think I've ever played that game. Thanks for the heads up about the dishcloth...made me laugh..a lot (but perplexed as to why my InsideOut hasn't landed in the letterbox yet!)
ReplyDeleteThanks Mary. Board games in the Scottish Highlands sounds even more enticing. Presumably with a roaring fire in the background, a hot toddy and a couple of shortbreads. Heaven.
ReplyDeleteAw shucks Kerry. I think they're gorgeous too.
ReplyDeleteThe game is version of the card game Rummy, but so much more refined playing with tiles. I can see a vintage set on your Chrissy present wish list.
I agree Deborah, nothing better than board games and hot chocolate on a winters day. Loving that your girls are right into it...I wonder what they will be like in the Board Room??? Great negotiators I would say :)
